How do you spot fake free credit links?
Large offers, near-identical spelling and OTP requests are among the warning signs.
SHORT ANSWER
Suspicious links usually have a near-identical domain spelling, ask for an OTP or password, promise unusual amounts, push you to act immediately, or ask for a deposit to "unlock" a prize. Don't click or install files from links you aren't sure of.
What are the six warning signs?
- Domain spelling. Compare every letter. One extra or different letter can mean a different site.
- OTP requests. No legitimate party should ask for your OTP by message.
- Unusual amounts. Offers far larger than the promotion page need checking.
- Time pressure. "Claim in 10 minutes" pushes you to decide without checking.
- Deposit for a prize. Be careful if you are asked to pay to "unlock" a win.
- APK files. Installing files from unknown sources can expose your phone.
How does the Mae44 example help?
The mae44.io page we checked lists many domains, including the spelling "mee44.life". When a brand uses many domains, lookalikes become harder to tell apart. We found no "888 free credit" offer on that page, so be careful if a link promises one. See what Mae44 advertises.
This site's own domain, and the domain of our partner link, are not mae44.io. Read the affiliate disclosure.
What should you do if you've already been caught?
- Change any affected passwords immediately.
- Contact your bank or e-wallet provider immediately.
- Keep screenshots and transaction records.
- Report it to the relevant authorities, such as the police or the National Scam Response Centre.
